Gaylord Duncan Sampson

1953 – 2023

Gaylord Duncan Sampson entered into eternal rest on January 18, 2023.

He was born in Cedar City, Utah on July 22, 1953 to Stanley Sampson, Jr and Mary Orvilla Urban. He was 69 years old. He was known to many as “Sam”.  He was an enrolled member of the Confederated Tribes of the Goshute Reservation. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Rodney “Duke” and his son Nicholas Sampson.

In his youth he lived in Tooele and attended elementary school.  As a teenager he went to Stewart Indian School where he played football and baseball. He wore bell-bottomed jeans in his youth. He worked at the casinos in Wendover as an adult. He lived in Salt Lake City for the latter part of his life.

Sam was a free bird. He was independent and often found solutions to life’s problems on his own. He was a kind and funny person. He liked to smile and tease. He had a good laugh and could see the positive in any situation. He loved to go to Pow Wows. His favorite radio station was KRCL on Sunday mornings. He would often call and dedicate songs to people he knew and loved. He loved to make friends and could often be found hanging out with them.

He is survived by his wife Anna Sampson, his sister Gigi and two brothers Joe and Jerome as well as nieces, nephews and stepchildren along with other family members and friends.

Graveside Services will be held at the Tooele City Cemetery on Monday, January 30, at 12:30 PM in the care of Dalton-Hoopes Funeral Home. 435-884-3031
