Veteran Funeral Service in Grantsville, Utah

A farewell that reflects a lifetime of duty and sacrifice. We coordinate military funeral honors and carry the details, so your loved one is laid to rest with the dignity earned through their service.

Proudly honoring those who wore the uniform
A farewell worthy of their service

Every veteran deserves a farewell that reflects a lifetime of duty and sacrifice. At Dalton-Hoopes Funeral Home, we have proudly served Grantsville families since 1979, and our veteran funeral service is built to honor those who wore the uniform. When you trust us with a deceased veteran, we handle the details, coordinate military funeral honors, and make sure your loved one is laid to rest with the dignity earned through military service.

Every detail, honored

A veteran funeral service brings together the traditions your family holds dear and the honors reserved for those who served our country. Whether your loved one served a single enlistment or a full career, our funeral director will walk you through every step so nothing about their service is overlooked.

A right, not a favor

Honoring Veterans With Military Funeral Honors

Veterans and their families have earned a farewell marked by respect. As part of our veteran funeral service, we help coordinate military funeral honors through the Department of Veterans Affairs and the appropriate military branch. These honors are provided at no cost for eligible veterans and typically include the folding and presentation of the burial flag, the playing of Taps, and a rendering of honors by an honor guard.

Honor One

The Burial Flag

The folding and presentation of the burial flag to the family, carried out with precision and reverence.

Honor Two

The Sounding of Taps

The playing of Taps, the traditional call that marks a final farewell to a life of service.

Honor Three

The Honor Guard

A rendering of honors by an honor guard detail of at least two service members, carrying out these traditional honors.

The core elements of military honors, the flag detail and the sounding of Taps, are provided by a military funeral honor team of at least two service members. For many families, the sight of an honor guard detail carrying out these traditional honors is the most meaningful moment of the entire service. We coordinate the request so the honor guard and military funeral honor teams are in place on the day of the funeral, giving your family one less thing to manage.

Military members, veterans, and their families should know that these funeral honors are a right, not a favor. Our role is to make the request on your behalf and ensure every detail of the military funeral is arranged.

Understanding what you've earned

VA Burial Benefits for Eligible Veterans

The Department of Veterans Affairs offers several burial benefits that can ease the burden of burial expenses for the family of a deceased veteran. Understanding veteran benefits can be confusing, so we sit down with each family and explain what may apply to your situation.

Depending on eligibility, VA burial benefits may include:

VA Burial Allowances

VA burial allowances toward burial expenses, applied to help offset the family's costs.

A Burial Flag

A burial flag to drape the casket, presented to the family in honor of their loved one's service.

Presidential Memorial Certificate

A Presidential Memorial Certificate signed in recognition of honorable military service.

Burial in a National Cemetery

An eligible veteran may qualify for burial in a national cemetery at no cost, including the grave, opening and closing, a headstone or marker, and perpetual care of the site.

Because VA burial allowances and eligibility rules change over time, we help you contact the right offices and gather what you need rather than guessing. Families sometimes also carry questions about veteran services, health care, and other veteran affairs matters, and we are glad to point you toward accurate resources such as Veterans Affairs and the Funeral Consumers Alliance.
A dignified resting place

Burial in a National Cemetery

For many families, burial in a national cemetery is a fitting final tribute. A VA national cemetery provides a dignified resting place among fellow veterans, with the grounds maintained under perpetual care. Eligible veterans may be buried in a national cemetery at no cost to the family, and spouses and dependents can often be laid to rest in the same memorial plots.

Utah families are frequently served by a nearby veterans cemetery, and burial at a distinguished site such as Arlington National Cemetery may also be available to those who qualify.

We handle the outreach

Scheduling a burial at a national cemetery is coordinated through the National Cemetery Scheduling Office, and our funeral home handles that outreach for you. What eligible veterans may receive at no cost:

  • The grave and the opening and closing
  • A headstone or marker
  • Perpetual care of the site
  • A resting place among fellow veterans

Whether your loved one is buried close to home or at a VA national cemetery farther away, we make certain the arrangements honor their military service.

No two veterans are alike

A Service Tailored to Their Life

No two veterans are alike, and no two services should be either. Your veteran funeral service can take the shape of a traditional funeral with military honors at the graveside, a memorial service with a burial flag presentation, or a cremation followed by a gathering with full funeral honors. We help you choose memorial items and keepsakes that reflect your loved one's branch, rank, and personality, from flag cases to engraved markers.

Traditional Funeral

A traditional funeral with military honors at the graveside, carried out with reverence and care.

Memorial Service

A memorial service with a burial flag presentation, gathering loved ones to remember a life of service.

Cremation With Honors

A cremation followed by a gathering with full funeral honors, tailored to your family's wishes.

Whatever form the service takes, our goal is the same, to honor a life of service with warmth, care, and attention to every detail your family wants remembered.
