Dorothy Jean Hooft Leonelli, our family matriarch and protector, died Saturday, June 17, at home with her family by her side. She lost a 3-year battle to cancer, however was a fighter until the bitter end. She was born July 2, 1941, in Winnemucca, Nevada, to Willem and Geertje Visser Hooft. She graduated from Humboldt High School in 1959 and moved to Utah shortly after, where she met and married Samuel Leonelli on December 11, 1965. She was embraced by the Leonelli’s and easily blended into the Tooele community where she raised their family.

She was fortunate to be a stay-at-home Mom until 1982. She then started her career working as the Administrator at Family Practice Group and then the Tooele County School District where she retired in 2007.

She is survived by her five children: Craig, Lisa, David (Nathalie), Nicholas (Angie), and Shanz (Alexis), 13 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews that she loved deeply.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, her parents and siblings Willie Hooft, Albert Hooft, Raymond Hooft, and Agnes Johnson.

A Visitation is scheduled for Friday, June 23from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. followed by a Service starting at 11 a.m., at The White House Gathering Place, 82 S. West Street, Grantsville, UT.
