Tyrees L Sidberry, Sr

Tyrees L Sidberry, Sr

Tyrees Lamont Sidberry Sr., age 48, passed away in his home in Salt Lake City on April 17, 2024 from complications related to diabetes. His loss was unexpected and his family and friends are profoundly saddened.

Tyrees was born on November 27, 1975 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at Pennsylvania University Hospital to Bettie Ramsey and Teddy Tolbert. He was baptized and received Christ at the age of 9.   Tyrees and the entire Sidberry family were very active members of The Lily of the Valley Faith Bible Way Church. Tyrees attended Comegy’s Elementary and Shaw Middle School and attended Bok High School in Philadelphia before he relocated to White Sands, New Mexico. There he continued his education, attending Oñate High School.  Tyrees earned an athletic scholarship to play basketball and continue his journey in higher education at Casa Grande Junior College and, later, at New Mexico Highlands University where he majored in Kinesiology.  Tyrees developed a love of boxing early in life and, despite being a ‘skinny kid’, displayed a toughness and fight that endured throughout his life.

Tyrees later moved to Utah where he had 5 children: Tyrees Jr, Treyvon, Teya, Teyvia, and Jayla. He was a loving father and took every opportunity he could to brag about his children to anyone who had the ears to listen. There is nothing that made him more proud than his children but Gordo and Mula, his beloved bulldogs, ran a close second.  A friend to all animals throughout his life, his bulldogs held a special place and were his steady companions.  Tyrees held so many people dear to his heart and made sure that everyone knew it in one way or another.  His family was everything to him.  He embodied the best of qualities: unconditional love, strength of spirit, and unending curiosity. He was never afraid of trying new things, in fact, he embraced this wholeheartedly and was always diving head first into new activities.

Although Tyrees may have left Philadelphia, his love for his home state never wavered and that was evident through his constant support of Philly sports. The Eagles and the 76’ers were his two favorite teams and this reigns true through the Sidberry name. The loyalty he had to his team was unmatched, and that loyalty is not exclusive to his sports but his people more than anything. Tyrees cherished all the moments he had with his mother, siblings, children, and his friends. The word ‘friend’ is not to be used lightly either, anyone that Tyrees referred to as a friend was truly family to him as well.

Tyrees was preceded in death by his grandmother, Juanita; grandfather, Bettis; father, Teddy; siblings, Stephan,  Rasheeda and Pat (Virginia); uncles, Thomas, Theodore and Charles.

Tyrees is survived by his mother, Bettie; stepfather, George; children, Tyrees Jr., Treyvon, Teya, Teyvia and Jayla; grandson Truth; siblings Virginia and Shariff; uncle, Richard; nieces, Tiffany, Aerin, Sydnee Rikki, Jaden, and Brianna; nephews, Shariff Jr., Omar and Julian; dear friends, Christopher and Barbara; bulldogs, Gordo and Mula; and numerous beloved friends, family, colleagues and loved ones.

His departure from this place comes as a great shock and a deep wound felt by his entire family and numerous others who had the pleasure of getting to know him. Tyrees may not be with us any longer but his memory and love will never waiver in the hearts of those he cared for. Don’t think of him as gone away, his journey has just begun. Life holds so many facets; this life is only one. Just think of him as resting from the sorrows and tears in a place of warmth and comfort where there are no days or years. For nothing loved is ever lost, and he was loved so much.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 8th at 11 a.m. at City View Mortuary (1001 E. 11th Ave., Salt Lake City, Ut. 84103).  Visitation will precede service and begin at 10 a.m.  Internment will take place immediately following the funeral service and will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery (1342 E. 500 S., Salt Lake City, Ut., 84102).

Arrangements in care of Dalton-Hoopes Funeral Home. 435-884-3031

I am so saddened by the sudden passing of Tyrees. I always loved seeing him at Teyvia’s sports and dance events over the years. He was such a bright light with that big smile and warm hug as we would watch his daughter (my Granddaughter)). To me he always had such a beautiful calm demeanor that radiated such kindness & love! Rest in Peace Tyrees !

Beautiful tribute to an incredibly kind soul. I would see Ty in passing, taking his pups for a walk, sitting in the sunshine at PaperBox park, it warmed my heart. Always smiling. WestGate won’t be the same without him. Peace be with the family during this difficult time. God bless those who walked beside him to shape what a kind man he became. Big shoes to fill for his children.
    In your hands O Lord,
We humbly trust our brothers and sisters.
    In this life, you embrace them with your tender love;
    Deliver them from every evil
    And bid them eternal rest
The old order has passed away:
    Welcome them into Paradise,
There will be no sorrow, no weeping or pain,
But fullness of peace and joy
With your son and the holy
    Forever and ever
    Amen
    Rest in peace sweet Ty

He’s been on my mind….my sweet friend Tyrees who only wanted a normal life. He wanted to travel and eat what he wanted. I took him to several doctors appointments and we always enjoyed good convo over a delicious meal. Im so sad to hear of his passing and I hope Gordo and Mula are with family. He encouraged my art, my creativity, my imagination. We sat for many hours on his balcony listening to the Sounds of Philly and R&B from the early days. Knowing I will never see him in person again breaks my heart, but I’m so grateful for our time together. So Much to offer – gone way to soon. I love you my dear Tyrees…..forever and ever. 🩷
