Mariela E Escalante

Mariela Eugenia Escalante, age 34, of Saint Paul, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2024, surrounded by her loving wife Heidi and sister Claudia. She was born on January 11, 1990 in Trujillo, Peru, as the daughter of Dr. Italo H. Escalante and J. Luz Zuñiga.

She is survived by his wife, Dr. Heidi J. Saxton, her grandmother M. Edelmira Guerrero Cabrejos, her parents Dr. Italo H Escalante Rojas and J. Luz Zuñiga Guerrero, her siblings M. Ysabel Escalante Chavez (Carlos A), Italo M. Escalante Chavez (Magally), Claudia L. Escalante-Whitney (Jordan) and Cinthia Escalante-Magalhaes (Robson), her nephews Cianna L, Zaylee S, Zoey J and Sierra J Whitney, Camilla V, Mia I, and Benjamin L Lill-Magalhaes, and her poodle dog Lily, whom she loved dearly. Mariela loved her family above all, whom she cared for with unmeasured love.

From a young age, she always faced her challenges with resilience and grace, inspiring everyone who knew her with her strength and unwavering determination. Despite the obstacles she encountered in her life, Mariela lived a life full of love, laughter and purpose.

She attended Murray High School and the University of Utah. She pursued her passion in the medical field by first becoming a dedicated and highly skilled surgical technician on the neurosurgery team at the University of Utah. She later earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Arizona State University and became a Pediatric Psychiatric Nurse, who touched the lives of many people with her kindness, compassion, and unique sense of humor. Valuing education and lifelong learning, Mariela earned her Master of Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts–Lowell and worked in the mortgage and housing finance fields.

Mariela enjoyed snowboarding, hiking, traveling, trying new foods, and finding joy in life’s simple pleasures. She had an infectious smile and a generous heart, always willing to lend a hand to those in need.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents J. Hermelindo Escalante Castañeda, M. Ofelia Rojas Pineda, Juan Zúñiga Farias, her uncles Nicanor Rivera Guerrero, Alcides Escalante Rojas, Arturo Escalante Rojas and her sister Dora Virginia Escalante García.

Mariela’s memory will always be cherished by her family and friends. Although she is no longer with us, her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. May she rest in peace, knowing that she was loved beyond measure.

A celebration of life for Mariela will be held on Friday, May 17 at 6:30 p.m. at City View Mortuary, located at 1001 E Eleventh Avenue in Salt Lake City, Utah. In accordance to her own wishes, Mariela will be cremated following this service. Mariela’s favorite flowers were lilies and they will adorn the service in remembrance of her vibrant spirit and her love for life.

Mariela Eugenia Escalante Zuñiga de Saxton, de 34 años, de Saint Paul, Minnesota, falleció pacíficamente el 10 de Mayo del 2024, rodeada de su amada esposa Heidi y su hermana Claudia. Ella nació el 11 de Enero de 1990 en Trujillo, Perú, hija del Dr. Italo H. Escalante Rojas y J. Luz Zuñiga Guerrero de Escalante.

Le sobreviven su esposa, la Dra. Heidi J. Saxton, su abuela M Edelmira Guerrero Cabrejos, sus padres el Dr. Italo H Escalante Rojas y J. Luz Zuñiga Guerrero de Escalante; sus hermanos (as) M. Ysabel Escalante Chavez de Aranibar (Carlos), Italo M. Escalante Chavez (Magally), Claudia L. Escalante de Whitney (Jordan) y Cinthia Escalante de Magalhaes (Robson), sus sobrinos Cianna L, Zaylee S, Zoey J y Sierra J Whitney, Camilla V, Mia I, y Benjamin L Lill-Magalhaes, y su perrita poodle Lily, a quien amaba muchísimo. Mariela amaba por encima de todo a su familia, a quienes cuidaba con amor sin medida.

Desde muy joven, siempre enfrentó todos sus desafíos con resiliencia y gracia, inspirando a todos los que la conocieron con su fuerza y determinación inquebrantable. A pesar de los obstáculos que encontró en su vida, Mariela vivió una vida llena de amor, risas y propósito.

Ella asistió al colegio secundario de Murray y a la Universidad de Utah. Ella persiguió su pasión en el campo médico convirtiéndose primero en una técnica quirúrgica dedicada y áltamente calificada en el equipo de neurocirugía de la Universidad de Utah. Luego obtuvo su Licenciatura en Enfermería en la Universidad Estatal de Arizona y se convirtió en enfermera de Psiquiatría Pediátrica, quien tocó las vidas de muchas personas con su amabilidad, compasión y sentido del humor único. Valorando la educación y el aprendizaje permanente, Mariela obtuvo su Maestría en Administración de Empresas de la Universidad de Massachusetts-Lowell y trabajó en los campos de hipotecas y finanzas de viviendas.

Mariela disfrutaba del snowboard, las caminatas por las montañas, viajar, probar nuevas comidas y encontrar alegría en los placeres simples de la vida. Tenía una sonrisa contagiosa y un corazón generoso, siempre dispuesta a echar una mano a los necesitados.

Le precedieron en la muerte sus abuelos J. Hermelindo Escalante Castañeda, M. Ofelia Rojas Pineda de Escalante , Juan Zúñiga Farias, sus tíos Nicanor Rivera Guerrero, Alcides Escalante Rojas, Arturo Escalante Rojas y su hermana Dora Virginia Escalante García de Adrianzen.

El recuerdo de Mariela será siempre apreciado por su familia y amigos. Aunque ella ya no esté con nosotros, su espíritu seguirá viviendo en los corazones de todos los que la conocieron. La extrañaremos profundamente, pero nunca la olvidaremos. Que descanse en paz, sabiendo que fue amada sin medida.

Una celebracion de vida para Mariela,  se llevará a cabo el dia Viernes 17 de Mayo a las 6:30 p.m. en el City View Mortuary, localizado en 1001 E Eleventh Avenue en Salt Lake City, Utah.  De acuerdo con sus propios deseos, Mariela sera cremada despues de este servicio. Las flores favoritas de Mariela eran los lirios y adornarán el servicio en recuerdo de su espíritu vibrante y amor por la vida.
