March 20, 1980 – July 25, 2024
James Patrick Waltz was born on March 20, 1980 in East Chicago to Patsy Ann Waltz. He was then adopted into a loving home by Charlene and Ted Gouwens “Grandma & Grandpa” and raised in Crown Point, Indiana.
After high school, James joined the military where he proudly served in the Army for 10 years. He pursued a career in the Pro Fishing Circuit for a short time, started a business with his cousin Shawn Diaz, and became a broker. Never shying away from a challenge, he moved to Tooele Utah where he began his career in the unmanned aircraft field working for AAI/Textron while simultaneously obtaining his Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Resources from Utah State University, which he proclaimed was the “Harvard of the West”. Understanding how much he enjoyed the outdoors; especially fishing and hunting, it makes sense his passion would lead him in that direction. Eventually, his career path led him to become the Public Works Director for Grantsville City. His devotion allowed him to thrive in serving the community and, mostly, the crew in the Public Works Department.
As dedicated as he was to his career, he was just as passionate about his favorite pastime, golf. His most cherished memories are those of him and “the buddies” on the greens. Through all of James journeys his loyal dog “Jase Boy” was right by his side.
James will forever be loved and missed by the Gouwens, Pitt’s, Meschede, and Diaz Families. He leaves behind a long list of friends to include life long friend Jimmy Lewis, Tim Woodbury, Aaron Baker, Cory Park, Dallon Allred and Shawn Diaz.
James also leaves behind the love of his life and fiancé Braydee Baugh. His absence will be felt by all those that loved him forever. Until we meet again my friend ❤️
James is preceded in death by his mother Patsy and “Grandma & Grandpa” Gouwens
The viewing will be held Friday, August 2nd from 6-8pm at the Dalton-Hoopes Funeral Home, 50 W. Main St. in Grantsville . Military graveside services will be held Saturday, August 3rd at 10:00 am at the Grantsville City Cemetery. (North Section)

So sorry to hear about James passing. He will be remembered as a caring young man….gone too soon. I worked with James for several years and he was one to always do the right thing with an uncompromising work ethic. He will be missed. Rest in peace friend…..
This is not good bye !!!! This is I’ll see you later my good friend. I will always cherish our many memories together growing up . I am proud of the man you became fighting for our freedom!!! May God look over you and protect you like you did our country!!! I love you brother!!!!!

You lived life to the fullest and had such a great sense of humor. I have relived so many memories in my mind since I heard of your passing and the smiles keep coming as I think of them.
