Sherry Eilene Pierce
September 15th 1950 to January 10th 2025
In the early morning hours of January 10 th 2025, warm in her bed and attended
to by her dedicated husband of 44 years, our beloved Sherry Eilene Pierce passed
through the veil into eternity. We mourn our loss of her but rejoice in the end of
her suffering and now we celebrate her life. Sherry was born to Robert and Inez Caldwell
in Murray Utah on September 15, 1950. One of eight children she didn’t have much
growing up but her father worked hard to get them through. As a child, her family was
compelled to move regularly to follow work. She talked about the cold of living in
Manilla. Utah while her father worked on the Flaming Gorge Dam and riding
in refrigerator boxes in the back of a pickup truck. She learned as a young child what
really mattered in life and she never wanted for what was really important. She
taught those same lessons to her own family. Sherry became the young mother
of four children: Melisa, Melana, Jerrod and Justin for whom she cared and loved ferociously.
She was the quintessential momma bear, always ready to fight for her babies.
And she fought and struggled constantly; working long hours at sometimes humbling
jobs, cooking, cleaning, guiding, loving and occasionally, when necessary, standing
up to those whom she felt threatened or wronged her babies. Her babies learned
how to work and fight and that they were loved unconditionally. After her first
marriage ended, she found herself working as a waitress at the Lake Point Truckstop
to support her family. Also working there at the time as a diesel mechanic was a
man named Donald Pierce. They met and fell in love. They married on August 9 th 1980.
At that time Donald also adopted Sherry’s children and from that day forward the
family would celebrate August 9 th as Pierce Day. Legally Donald adopted the children
but in reality, the family adopted Donald. Sherry worked hard her whole life. From
service jobs to clerical work, no job was too hard or menial to put food on the table.
For a time, she worked as a librarian at the Tooele Library. Which was fitting as she was an
avid reader her entire life. Eventually, she became an ammunition inspector at the
Tooele Army Depot where she worked long hard hours for many years. She retired
from the Army Depot in 2007, but the work had taken its toll on her body. For many years
she suffered from chronic pain and diminishing health. She was always very charitable
giving gifts, money, wisdom and time to those around her. She continued to share of
herself as her health declined and her mobility was reduced. She gave until all
she had left to give was her love and that gift stays with us and will never tarnish. Sherry
is survived by her Husband Donald Pierce, her children Melisa Walton, Jerrod and
Justin Pierce and a bunch of Grand Kids and Great Grand Children, and unofficially
adopted children and grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her
daughter Melana, her dear friend Carol, and her brothers Allen and Val Caldwell
who all welcomed her on Friday morning. She was a cantankerous fighter,
a hard worker, a mother, wife, sister, aunt, cousin and dedicated friend. She will be
missed dearly… until we meet again.
Private family Celebration of Life will be held.

I worked with Sherrie at the Union 76 truck stop. She was a great dancer. So patient with me. I’m glad she is out of her pain. She will be missed
