Roma Tuttle Marchant

Roma Tuttle Marchant

Roma Leah Tuttle, age 81 passed away on August 26, 2024 at her home in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born to Burdette Tuttle and Leah Bennett on March 14, 1943.  She graduated from West High School in 1961 and married Eldon Marchant in February 1965.  Roma has touched many over the course of her life and the following are some memories from her grandchildren.

Lewis and Brandon Alofipo: When we were around 5 and 4 years old, respectively, we lived with grandma. She would take us outside one at a time on the front concrete porch area of our apartment to teach us how to skate. She always held our hand to ensure we did not fall. Unfortunately, that led to some injuries on her calf area. But we both independently remembered and wanted to share this memory. She will always be in our hearts and memories.

Joseph Marchant: I remember when I was little Grandma and I would watch TV and do crossword puzzles. Muffett would always stare at me with suspicious eyes and Tiger would come cuddle us. Grandma always let me try to find the bigger words and would give me hints. She always sent me upstairs with a kiss. It was fun having her at home or to go with to Shopko or to prank on. I’ll miss her sense of humor and the talks we had about life and Christ. She always has some of the most simple questions about the gospel that I never had thought about. I’ll miss her showing up at the shop I worked at with Aunt Darlene and taking me to lunch. I’ll miss all the Creamies and rice crispy treats. If there’s Coke in heaven I know that’s where she’ll be talking with the angels.

Christopher Marchant: Grandma loved the look and beauty of Turquoise. In many ways her life was a quiet pursuit of the peace and protection that the stone symbolizes in Navajo Culture. Now as she has returned to her Father in Heaven she finds the true and lasting comfort that Turquoise could only hint at. We love you grandma and will never forget to love that which is beautiful in this life, Our memories of you.

Sean Marchant: One of my fondest memories of her was spending Sundays in her room after church, drinking a coke, and watching Bob Ross on TV. She was always so easy to relax and spend time with and she will be missed beyond words.

Conrad Marchant: The memory that came to my mind was when I went to grandma’s apartment to help her out for a week. We watched TV, talked, and shared a lot of laughs. She will be missed.

Joshua Marchant: The greatest memory I have of Grandma Marchant is that me and her would read scriptures together weekly. As we read I would explain to her as best as I could and the spirit would do the rest what those verses and chapters meant. I saw the enjoyment on her face everytime we were about ready to pray and read together. She made a huge spiritual impact in my life and helped me get through my darkest moments that has shaped me into the man I am today. I love you so much Grandma.

Mercedes Bird: One memory I have of Grandma Marchant was when she gave me a birthday card and we went to visit her for Christmas.

Roma is survived by her son Jeffery Marchant and his wife Michelle with their children Joseph and wife Bethany, Christopher and wife Isabel, Sean and wife LeAnna, and Joshua. Daughter Lesa Bird and her husband Kirk with their children Lewis and his wife Alanna, Brandon and his partner Rebecca, Conrad, and Mercedes. Dear family I’m so sorry to hear of Roma’s death. My memory of Roma is when I had my son on Jan 19 1998 I had to leave him in the NICU unit because he was early. Well I day when I went to visit him I was hungry so I went to get something from the cafeteria & Roma was cashing ppl out we had a good talk & then she called Darlene up & told her I was there eating so they both came over & talked with me for awhile. It was so cool running into my cousins.
