Katelyn was born on December 21, 2002 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Donald and Joann Cleveland.  One word to describe Katelyn was perseverance. She struggled with many challenges throughout her life, but strived to go the distance and overcame many obstacles. She not only challenged herself but was always there for others when they needed the strength to carry on. It was easy to see her strength to overcome and her love of service in everything she accomplished. While attending High School Katelyn volunteered as an explorer at the Tooele Police Department. Following graduation, she served an honorable mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Colorado Denver North mission, as well as the Orem Utah mission. At the completion of her mission she had touched countless lives by shining like her Savior through her love, joy, humor and happiness.  She recently graduated from Paul Mitchell Cosmetology School after a year of hard work and dedication. In her free time, she ran races, participated in polar plunges, spent time with her family and trained her dog Butch.

My heart broke when I learned of this sweet woman’s passing. I remember Katelyn just before she had gone on her mission. My husband and I were new to the ward and I had just been called as.a Young Women’s president. I met her one evening during a youth activity with the young women. She was preparing to serve her mission then. Katelyn seemed so bright and happy. I remember talking to her about her mission and how excited I was for her, having also just returned recently from my own mission and discovering she was called to serve in an area where I knew family relatives who lived there. Our meeting was brief, but int that small time I got to know her, I could tell she was a girl with so much life and love to give, and she gave it freely. She was easy to talk to and you could tell just how sweet natured and kind she was. She was a great example to others around her. My love, my thoughts and prayers go out to all of you.

Katelynn is a wonderful young woman. and I am so blessed to have been able ti help teach her the temple prep class before she went on her mission! She’s gone too soon from our realm but I know she will be loving time with her Dad and will keep busy doing what ever they need her to do on the other side! I love you Katelynn. And to the Cleveland family we are here if you need anything!
