Glenda Guthrie

Glenda Charlene Guthrie, born on December 28, 1939, in Mammoth Springs, Arkansas, passed away on February 29, 2024, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was the beloved daughter of Michael and Dora Beeching. Glenda was preceded in death by her husband Albert Eugene Guthrie (Gene), daughter Robin Guthrie-Tetrick, and brother Rod Beeching.

Glenda’s journey began in Alamogordo, New Mexico, where she married Gene Guthrie on November 15, 1958. Together, they embarked on a lifetime adventure, raising three daughters while Gene pursued his passion for music and radio broadcasting. After moving to Salt Lake City, Utah, Glenda played an integral role in the family business, supporting Gene in owning and operating Utah’s renowned country radio stations, KRGO AM & FM for nearly three decades.

Beyond her personal and professional endeavors, Glenda’s true passions lay in her family and hobbies. She adored reading, particularly indulging in the genre of Romance. She was known for her love of unicorns, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her loved ones. Glenda was a vivacious and fun-loving individual, always spreading joy with her infectious smile and laughter. She had a mischievous side, often teasing her sons-in-law with unique gifts of embarrassing underwear and showering her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with love and affection. Like Peter Pan, Glenda remained true to staying young at heart, even at 84 years of age.

Glenda’s interests included travel, coffee, and wine, but her greatest pleasure was conversing with her sisters and family members over the phone if she could not visit in person. She cherished these connections dearly.

Glenda is survived by her daughters Kathy and Mona, sisters Jay and Karen, seven grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Her legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to her family will forever be remembered and cherished by those who knew her.

In honor of Glenda’s memory, the family requests that instead of flowers or donations, that her friends and family grab a coffee or a glass of wine and take a moment regularly to celebrate their families, as Glenda did with such joy and enthusiasm.

The family also extends their heartfelt gratitude to the hospital staff, doctors, and nurses of the University of Utah critical Neuro care ward for their exceptional care and compassion during Glenda’s final days.

Glenda Guthrie’s presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were touched by her warmth and kindness. May she rest in peace, reunited with Gene.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 from 6-8 PM at the Dalton-Hoopes Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 50 W Main, Grantsville, Utah 84029

Glenda was a beautiful woman who lit up any room she walked in. She was a giver, and her family was the most important thing to her. She helped me during some very dark times in my life, and was there even when my own parents were not. She gave the best hugs and loved talking about life over a cup of coffee. She always made me feel welcome and knew how to put a little smile on my face even when some horrible things were going on in my life. Though I lost touch with her after moving away, she always has a special place in my heart and I will forever be grateful for her love and compassion she showed me. My love and condolences go to all her remaining family members. With love and aloha, I love you and will never forget you.
