Ernest D. McDowell

Ernest Derrell McDowell, 65 of Tooele, Utah passed away April 3rd, 2024.

Derrell was born on Sept 4th 1958 to Clarence Don McDowell and Utahna Shirley Barney in Sevier Utah. 

 He moved to Tooele when his mom remarried when he was just a young boy.  He spent the majority of his life living in Tooele.  Growing up he attended Central elementary, Tooele Jr. and Tooele High School.  It was thru school that he met his lifelong friend Val McCallum they were always together and became more like siblings which in turn gave Derrell another person to play pranks on, he enjoyed making people laugh. 

Derrell was always there for anyone that needed his help whether it be a stranger, friend or family didn’t matter to him if someone was in need.

He had many different jobs throughout his life and was good at whatever he did.  

He enjoyed spending time in Wendover and loved to take the fun bus out there.  He enjoyed doing anything with his family and loved to do things outdoors like fishing, camping and hunting. 

He met Terry Beebe Renfro in 1980 and together they raised 3 children until Terry passed away in 2005.

He met his now fiance Tanny Memmott in 2009 and raised their 2 fur babies together. (Tag and Chloe) His dogs were like his children and he spoiled them like crazy.

Derrell had many different health issue and always fought thru them and showed us all how brave and strong he was.

Derrell is survived by his soul mate Tanny Memmott, his 3 children – son Delbert (Stephanie) Renfro,  daughter-Vineta Davis (Steve Crabtree), son- John Renfro (Lacy Keetch), 10 grand children, 8 great grandchildren, sister Mary Broadhead and several other extended family members.

Proceeded in death by his mother Utahna Shirley Barney, father Clarence Don McDowell, step-father Charlie Broadhead, older brother Don, younger brother Billy and his grandparents.

Derrell will be loved and deeply missed by all who knew him. 

Special thanks to his best friend and nephew Bill Folker for always being there for Derrell.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Derrell on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 1 PM at The Shepherds House, 1533 Meadowlark Lane, Lakepoint, Utah 84074. 435-840-2636

    You were always positive, no matter how much I was stressed, you always brought me out of my gloom and got me to smile.
