Obituary of Thais Gamez Casey

Thais Melendez Gamez Casey

March 30, 2001—November 14, 2025

En Español

Thais was born in Utah but also grew up in México. She graduated from Hunter High School in 2019. As a child she was known for her kindness and creativity. Thais was diagnosed with neuroblastoma at the age of 13. She fought hard and strong throughout those years, and her determination and faith inspired many.

She met the love of her life Austin at the age of 17 whom she married on November 19, 2022.

Thais loved Jesus and the gospel. Gardening and sunflowers brought her joy. She enjoyed ceviche, tostadas, pasta, chicken alfredo, watermelon and her mom’s beans. She was known for her cooking, baking and hospitality—everyone especially enjoyed her lasagna soup, pumpkin desserts and tres leches cake. And she delighted in her fur babies, Bella and Zoey.

Thais is survived by her loving husband Austin; parents Raymundo and Dulce; sister Jennifer; brother Gael; grandparents and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Austin and family would like to express their thanks to the entire staff at Primary Children’s Hospital including the nursing staff and Dr. Fair from the oncology team; Stacey and Tomoko and the SOAP team; Dr. Miller and the ICU team.

A Celebration of Life service will be held in her honor Saturday, November 22nd, from 1 to 2 p.m., followed by a light reception. Austin invites guests to dress casual in yellow or bright colors to celebrate Thais.

Saturday, November 22nd, at 1-2 PM
