Obituary of Steven L. Roberts

Steve and Laurel met in Star Valley Wyoming in August of 1983. Steve was working on the road construction crew. The evening they met he had gotten his hand caught in the Rock Crusher at work that day. He had a cast on his hand and she knew right from the get-go that he was tough as nails! They had a short courtship and he proposed on November 16th, his birthday. They were married on February 10th 1984 in Afton Wyoming.

Jason was the first born son, born on January 29th 1985. His brother Blake was born January 18th 1988.
They lived in Kearns Utah until 2005. Life in Kearns was wonderful. Steve worked for a mattress company and delivered mattresses for a time , he could throw a mattress on his shoulders and haul them without breaking a sweat. He also worked for a construction company and a concrete company and spent some time in Reno, Nevada and also in Golden Colorado. He was gone for long periods of time.
He always had a love for serving in the medical profession and went to school to be a medical assistant. Which led to him going back to school to get his registered nurse certificate. When studying he would shut the bedroom door and lay on the bed to study, Jason and Blake would stand at the door and try to get him to come out and play with them. The boys also had friendships in that neighborhood. (Jason add more).  They had the best Neighbors and Ward and we’re very close to many people in Kearns.
Steve worked in several medical facilities and hospitals in the Salt Lake Valley. He worked first as a triage nurse for FHP. Later working at Pioneer Valley Hospital, and LDS Hospital in the psych units. He ended his career working with geriatric patients. Laurel and the boys took a basket of fruit and went to see his patients one day and as he introduced them to one of his elderly patients as they were leaving the room she told Laurel “I just love your husband he’s so kind and wonderful to me, I wouldn’t want to be here if he wasn’t here.” When they left the room Steve said that’s funny she threw her milk at me this morning. One day they got a call from the facility he worked out and they told him that they had moved one of his patients to the hospital. At the hospital the patient had been calling out “Steve, I just need Steve” and the hospital could not find a relative in his chart with that name. So Steve jumped in the car and went to visit him at the hospital. He had a wonderful career as a registered nurse and was always a great provider for his family.
In 2005 they bought a home in South Jordan Utah where they were again blessed with an amazing neighborhood and Ward! By then Jason had left home and soon met Jennifer Tanner. Jen was a wonderful addition to our family. And Steve and Laurel adored her from the beginning! They gave Steve and Laurel two wonderful grandchildren. Drake Ray Roberts, and Sophie Belle Roberts. Steve and Laurel enjoyed every bit of time they got to spend with their beautiful grandchildren.
In 1994 Steve and Laurel took the boys and headed for Disneyland in their old van. When they got close to Orem the van threw a rod through the engine and so the local dealership put them in a brand new van with all the bells and whistles. The first night when we got to the hotel room Steve and Laurel laid down to relax for a bit and the boys sat on the balcony with the key fob and honked the van’s horn every time someone walked by and then they would giggle and roll around on the patio, it was hilarious! Disneyland was wonderful and Steve and Jason took all the scary rides while Laurel and Blake took the mellow rides, like the teacups.
Blake lived at the home in South Jordan until his passing in 2023.
In 2009 Steve retired at age 60.
Services will be held on Saturday,  October 25, 2025 at 1 PM in the Grandville Church, 11677 Grandville Ave., South Jordan, Utah 84009.
