Joshua William Davis
Born June 16, 1974 — Died October 5, 2025
Grantsville, Utah
Joshua William Davis passed away Sunday morning, October 5, 2025, at the age of 51, following complications from a kidney and pancreas transplant. Josh was born on June 16th, 1974, in Los Angeles, California, to Richard and Sharon Davis (later Sharon Zander). From a young age, Josh demonstrated leadership, determination, and compassion—qualities that would define his life. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, exemplifying service and perseverance through numerous camping trips, outdoor adventures, and even a memorable 50-mile hike. Growing up, he attended both summer and winter diabetic camps, where he built lasting friendships and developed a lifelong love for the outdoors.
That love of camping never faded. As an adult, Josh cherished time spent in nature with his family, Currant Creek being a favorite destination where countless memories were made. He had a remarkable ability to fix anything and never shied away from a challenge. Josh took immense pride in his yard and found joy in making his surroundings beautiful. He adored his dogs and was truly a dog person throughout his life, finding companionship and comfort in their loyal presence. His love for his dogs was a deep, lifelong bond.
Josh was beloved not only by his immediate family, but also by countless neighbors and friends whose lives he touched. Many neighbors came forward after his passing to tell stories of how Josh quietly, and often behind the scenes, stepped in to help: mowing lawns, fixing a sprinkler, shoveling snow, helping haul furniture, or simply offering a listening ear when someone needed it most. Josh’s generosity wasn’t flashy or for show; it was steady, sincere, and consistent. In all these ways, through small gestures and grand ones, Josh built a legacy of kindness that will live on in the stories people tell, the help they pass forward, and the hearts he touched.
He loved his Dallas Cowboys and carried that fandom with pride, faithfully, every season. Beyond his hobbies and passions, Josh’s greatest treasures were his family and relationships. He shared a special bond with his mother’s husband, Wolfgang Zander, whom he deeply admired and loved. His warmth, humor, and gentle nature left an everlasting mark on all who knew him.
Josh is survived by his spouse, Jessica Patterson; his children, Earl McCormick (17), Nicole Lynn (16), and Lexi Zwahlen (21); his mother, Sharon Zander (Wolfgang); his brother, R. Jeffrey Davis (Sheri); and his sisters, Jennifer Anderson (Blaine) and Katherine Brunner (Donovan). He also leaves behind two half-sisters, Alexandra Figgat (Mitch) and Elizabeth Prettyman (Jed), and two step-siblings, Carrie Bell (Antwon) and Greg Zander (Michelle). He held in special regard his Uncle John Davis (Vicki), whom he considered a father figure. Josh is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Orvil Davis, and his grandparents.
A viewing will be held Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and the funeral service will follow at 12:00 noon, both to be held at Shelly Lane Chapel, 410 Shelly Lane, Grantsville, Utah. The services will also be streamed online; to watch, visit www.grantsville.live and select Grantsville 11th Ward (Shelly Lane). Interment will take place immediately after the funeral services at Grantsville City Cemetery, in the new section located on the north side of Clark Street behind Clark Farm.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the University of Utah Hospital staff, the University of Utah Transplant Team, and the many doctors, nurses, and caregivers whose dedication, compassion, and valiant efforts brought comfort and hope throughout Josh’s courageous journey.
Joshua’s legacy will be remembered in the lives he touched, the things he built, the love he shared, and the strength and courage he showed. May he be remembered always with peace, gratitude, and love.
