Obituary of Jakline Gasana

Jakline Murengera Gasana was born on January 1st, 1982, in Central East Africa, in Burundi, Province Muyinga. She sadly left us unexpectedly on November 30th, 2025 in Illinois, Chicago. Gasana was only 43 years old.

Gasana is survived by her husband Kidura Murengera ,8 children, Ailine, Alice, Rukara, Ndayisenga, Bukuru, Butoyi,Pascal and Kevin, with 6 grandchildren and many loyal friends and extended family members.

Gasana was a wise woman, even though, she didn’t get an opportunity to access former education because of civil war that led her to flee her country in 1994 to neighboring country of Tanzania where she lived as a refugee over 15 years.

In 1994, Gasana fled from Burundi to Tanzania where she lived for over 15 years in refugee camp. In refugee camp life was very difficult. Life was not easy throughout her lifetime. In refugee camp, she continued to work hard to bring food on table.

In 2008, Gasana and her family were among lacky families to move to the United States as refugees. They arrived in Salt Lake City, Utah in the summer of 2008, and since then, they called Utah their final home place. Even though starting new life here was very challenging, she managed it, and her resilience made it possible. She continued to be involved in the community where she participated in African traditions and cultures events. She loved to dance tradition songs. She had a strong sense of community, so she was not afraid speaking her mind.

Gasana, was a mother of faith, she saw a hand of Jesus Christ after pondering how she survived a civil war in Burundi. She came to realize that only way he made it was the light of Jesus Christ. She was visited by the Missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints. She accepted the gospel teachings and chose to follow Jesus Christs light through the baptism. She found joy and happiness in church. She was among the first members of the Swahili branch. She found the meaning and purpose of life through the gospel teachings of Jesus Christ.

Gasana’s life, work, and kindness will be remembered. It is sadly that she has left us. In her last life time, she experienced difficulties, such as health issues, mental health issues, shelter and other basic necessities anyone human could hope for. Even with all of those struggles, she continued to fight at her best ability. She always smiled. She greeted everyone with happy face. She accomplished a lot in her lifetime. She was grateful for the opportunity of life here on earth. She enjoyed being around her children and grandchildren. She was friendly to many people.  It is our faith that family and friends will meet Gasana again one day.
