Gregory F. Hess
Gregory F. Hess, 73, passed away on September 10, 2026, in West Valley, Utah.
Greg was born June 12, 1953, in Downey, Idaho, to Ferris J. Hess and Sharon Thomas Hess. He grew up in Malad, Idaho, where he attended school and graduated from Malad High School.
Greg had an adventurous spirit and an endless curiosity about the world around him. He loved the outdoors, hunting, taking rides through the hills, and experiencing the land. He also loved taking things apart simply to see how they worked. He was always reading and learning something new. When something caught his interest, he would research it until he knew everything he could about it.
Greg was a man of many talents. Music came naturally to him and he could pick up a musical instrument and play it without formal training. During high school, he played in a band. He also had a gift with his hands, especially when working with wood. He would envision something in his mind and turn it into reality, designing and building almost anything he set his mind to.
After high school, Greg proudly served in the United States Navy and was stationed in San Diego, California, serving in the medical field at Balboa Naval hospital. Years later he joined his father in Malad and started G&F Construction. Greg lived in several places throughout his life, always enjoying new experiences and learning from the people around him. He eventually made his home in West Valley, Utah, where he lived until his passing. Greg will be remembered for his remarkable mind, curiosity, many talents, love of adventure, and his ability to build, fix, create, and understand just about anything. Most of all, he leaves behind memories that will continue to live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Greg is survived by his father, Ferris Hess; his son, Jeremiah F. Hess; his former wife Julie Hess, with whom he shared many years and memories; and his four daughters: Trisha (Brian) Knoblock, Kristi (Chad) Jeppsen, Kelly (Steve) Stephens, and Nikki May. He is also survived by his brothers; Sid Hess, Kim (Lee) Hess, and Todd (Cheryl) Hess, and his sister Teresa (Phil) Runkel. Greg leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, each carrying their own special memories of him. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sharon Thomas Hess. Greg’s wishes were to be cremated and to have no formal viewing or funeral.

I am saddened to hear about Greg. He and I went together to Boot Camp in San Diego and were in the same company(908). We were both in the Drum & Bugle Corps. I was in the Malad High class of 1969. Rest in Pease My Shipmate.
