Obituary of Dominic “Dom” Long

In Loving Memory of Dominic Long

On the morning of May 7th, Dominic John Joseph Long, age 18, passed from this earthly existence and returned home to his Heavenly Father’s loving arms. from an almost 3-year battle with Ewing Sarcoma cancer.

Dominic Long was born on October 9th, 2007, in West Jordan Utah. He started his elementary education in Sandy, Utah, at Altara elementary. He then moved to the city of Draper, where he attended Draper Elementary. Dom’s love for playing and understanding football, started in these early years. He participated in flag football and then transitioned into tackle ball. He would go on to take part in many games and tournaments and was always a key player in leading the team to a win. Dom also briefly played basketball with the Jr. Jazz league, played the cello in his school’s orchestra, followed and became the biggest Chicago Bears fan ever, and was Baptized and Confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Dom moved to the city of Grantsville where he quickly found a bunch of good friends that loved him, played football with him, and took part in many small-town shenanigans. Dom has always been a peace-maker and avoided conflict. When Dom was 15 years old, he was diagnosed with metastatic Ewing’s Sarcoma cancer. This condition did not define Dominic, rather highlighted his attributes of his warrior spirit. Dom took part in many football games with twenty-point deficits and still came back with the win. This was the only acceptable outcome for this cancer fight, and he fought valiantly until his last moment here on this earth. During this battle, Dom completed the spiritual work that needed to be done, to be in the Lord’s presence. At his new Grantsville 11th ward, he was ordained a Priest and Elder and received the Melchizedek Priesthood. It was very important to Dom to attend the Temple regularly and complete the work for those who did not have a chance to do so for themselves on this earthly plain. Although Dom’s life was limited here on Earth, his cancer did not win. Dom is flying high with the Angels and is enjoying all the things he could not in his Earthly form. Dom’s goal was to become a Missionary for his church, and we know he is busy teaching right now, and completing the work for the Lord.

Surviving family members include; Jared (father, 50) and Carmela Long, (mother, 46) Aubrianna, (sister 25) Frank (brother, 23) and Brandon (brother,17)

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at 11 AM in the Shelley Ward Chapel, 410 Shelley Lane, Grantsville, Utah 84029. A viewing for Dominic will take place on Friday evening May 15th, from 6-8 pm and also on Saturday morning from 9:30-10:30 AM prior to services. Dom’s burial will follow the funeral in the Grantsville City Cemetery.

  1. What a wonderful tribute to an amazing young man! I am glad that he maximized his talents during the short time he was here. Undoubtedly he brought great pride to his family and a tremendous amount of comfort due to his faith!
Seeing the number of his peers that paid their respect during his endowment reception was also heartwarming.
