Obituary of Alice Espinosa

Alice Espinosa, age 87, of Salt Lake City, peacefully entered eternal rest on Saturday, January 3, 2026. She was born on October 27, 1938, in Ignacio, Colorado, to the late Christina and Jose Ulibarry.

Alice was the proud and devoted mother of three cherished children: Matthew Shawn Izenberg, Christina Jo Izenberg, who preceded her in death on October 14, 2025, and Ellen “Hope” Espinosa. She found immense joy in her role as grandmother to Heather Fuller, Timmothy Fuller, Anthony James Izenberg, Betsy Ann Halsey, Jesse Farley, Shy-Lynne Izenberg, and Ian Goss as well as numerous great grandchildren, each of whom knew they were deeply loved.

A faithful and devout Catholic, Alice was a longtime member of Saint Ann Parish. She dedicated more than 30 years to serving as a compassionate and inspiring teacher in schools throughout the Salt Lake area, shaping young minds with patience, wisdom, and a no-nonsense kindness that made you want to behave, even when she wasn’t looking.

A true renaissance woman, Alice was endlessly creative and resourceful. An accomplished seamstress, she also dabbled in pottery and painting and had an uncanny ability to fix just about anything, often without instructions and sometimes while shaking her head at how it broke in the first place. Her homemade tortillas, biscochitos, and unforgettable red chile were legendary and lovingly shared.

Known for her quick wit, warm humor, kindness, and boundless generosity, Alice was the heart of her family as the beloved matriarch, she lovingly cared for nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and many friends who found comfort and guidance in her motherly presence.

Alice will be profoundly missed, and she would be proud knowing that the many souls she touched continue her legacy of love, service, and laughter. May we honor her by living generously, laughing often, and caring for others with love. Rest in eternal peace as heaven welcomes you, until we meet again.

Services will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026, at Saint Ann Parish, with viewing beginning at 10:00 a.m., followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m. Alice will be laid to rest in Ignacio, Colorado, the place where her story began.

In lieu of flowers those wishing may donate to the St Ann’s Catholic School or Judge Memorial.
