Darlene Norton Beckstead

Darlene Norton Beckstead was born December 25,1928, “A Christmas Baby” to Ardith Georgia and James Carl Norton. Darlene passed away peacefully at home with her family around her on August 29, 2026.

Darlene spent most of her youth in Utah County. She graduated from Springville High School and attend 1 year of college at BYU. She loved music and learned to play the Accordion. She played during her high school days and after graduation was asked to join a band. She played very good and loved it.
Darlene was very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and had a very strong testimony. She was called to the Minnesota Minneapolis Mission. She served the Lord faithfully and loved her companions that she served with. She made many friends while she was there.

After her mission, Darlene met the love of her life, Lynn Edwin Beckstead on a double date. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on May 18, 1953. They stayed in Utah County for about 9 years then moved to Grantsville. While living in Springville, she worked at Wakefield’s Music Store in Prove Utah. She loved what she was doing and it wasn’t work.
While living in Grantsville, Darlene started to work at the Bank. While the Banks name was changed many times, most of the employees stayed the same. She really enjoyed the women and men whom she worked with. Even after Retirement, many remained very close friends.

She enjoyed and taught our family how to clean, camp, fish, hike and just have fun together. She taught us to quilt, sew and make homemade treasures.
She was very active in church and served in many callings, in Relief Society, ”MIA” which is known as Young Women’s now, Primary and Sunday School. She really loved teaching the Gospel. Darlene wrote that her most valuable possessions was her family, their families and the knowledge of the Savior and what he has done for her. But mostly she taught her family to love the Lord and the Temple.

Darlene is survived by her son Richard (Darlene) Beckstead, Mary Ann (Rodger) Hunt, Pamela (Daniel) Reed. Her brothers David Norton and Kent Norton. 17 Grandchildren, 41 Great grandchildren, 5 Great great grandchildren plus 2 on the way.
Preceded in death by her husband Lynn E Beckatead, son and daughter-in-law Terry & Chris Beckstead Parents J Carl and Ardith Norton, Parents-in-law, Orson and Amy Beckstead. Sister Janet and brother-in-law Wayne Taylor. Sister-in-law Linda Norton. Brother-in-laws and sister-in-law’s, Courtney and Martine Beckstead, France and Afton Stubblefield, Elden and Jean Talbot, Lee and Bernice Beckstead, and many Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.

We would like to give a Very Special Thanks to Harmony Home Health, Hudson, Susan, Wendy and Ronen for the love and care they showed our mother. Dalton-Hoopes for the thoughtful way they have been after her passing, special thanks to Sandy at Flowers by Sally.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at 11 AM in the Grantsville 12th Ward, 428 So. Hale St., a viewing will be held from 9:30 – 10:30 AM prior to services. Burial will follow in the Grantsville City Cemetery.
