Obituary of Val Michael Larsen

Val Michael Larsen, 77, returned to our Heavenly Father on April 5 2026, leaving behind a life defined by hard work, devotion to family, and a deep love for the outdoors. He was born on September 18, 1948, to Val Dion Larsen and Evelyn Madsen Larsen.

Val graduated from Tooele High School and later continued his education at Salt Lake Community College. A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served a mission in Denmark and dedicated many years to church service. Among his many callings, his calling working with the young men was especially meaningful to him.

Val built a strong work ethic throughout his life. He retired early from Questar Gas, but true to his nature, he stayed busy—continuing to work for EG&G, Deseret Peak Complex, and Tooele Technical College before finally retiring. He was a man who thrived on solving problems and staying productive.

He had a deep love for animals, especially horses, and found peace and joy in the outdoors. Whether hunting, fishing, or camping, he was most at home in nature. His favorite place to spend time was Gooseberry Lake in the Manti-La Sal Mountains, where many memories were made with family and friends.

Above all, Val cherished his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Rhonda G. Larsen; his children, Nicole Larsen; Natalie and Otha Henderson; Matt Larsen; and Jimmy and Chambrea Olney; as well as 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Val Dion and Evelyn Larsen; his sister, Kathleen L. Dixon; his brother-in-law, Ed Dixon; his daughter, Jodie Baker; and his great-grandson, Kenia.

Val will be remembered as a man who loved deeply, worked hard, and found his greatest joy in family, faith, and the outdoors. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the example he set.

There will be a Grave side service at the Tooele City Cemetery, 361 S 100 E, Tooele, Utah on  Monday April 13 at 11 AM, all family and friends are welcome.

  1. Rhonda, i am so so sad to read this. He was so young. He loved you so much and will be missed by all.

  2. I’ve known Mike for years and knew him as a great man. He was first a friend one who I could always count on and that I could ask for help at anytime. He was hard working and always busy doing something. He loved the gospel of Jesus Christ. He was honest, compassionate, caring, strong yet gentle. He loved his family and his wife Rhonda deeply. I will always remember the good times we had serving in the church together. I will miss him. See you on the other side.

  3. Rhonda and Jimmie, I am so sorry! Mike loved you and was an amazing father to Jodie and Jimmie.
