1946 – 2024
Reid Byron Peterson, age 78, passed away on August 31, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his family after a short illness. He recently celebrated his 59th anniversary with his beautiful wife Jean. Of all the many things in his life he was most proud of his family. Reid was an avid fisherman. He loved to serve others in countless ways, one of his favorites was volunteering for the Special-Needs Kids Fishing Day with the Utah DWR. He was a Marine, a volunteer fireman, and was active in his church and community. He was an avid hunter who boasts a record of bagging an elk each year for 26 consecutive years. Reid was (and some believe still is) a serial prankster. In his later years he loved surfing the internet. He loved to bake. He would make piles of pancakes for anyone who visited, and for anyone willing to listen (and sometimes for the unwilling), he would happily teach them to cook his recipes. His motto was, “When it’s smoking it’s cooking; when it’s black it’s done.”
Of course, now we’ve unleashed a prankster with no physical limitations.
Survived by his wife L. Jean Hall Peterson, His daughters Lori VanKomen, Roulene (Reed) Hendricks, Sherrie (Tim) Syndergaard, Kellie (Duane) Shepherd, 24 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. Siblings Rodney Peterson, Randy Peterson, Ramona Birkenfeld, Rayona Freyner, Sue Kunz. He is preceded in death by his parents Roy Grant and Beverly Laverla Peterson, his brother DeRoy Peterson and sister Renae Bateman.
