Brett Arron Valdez

Brett Arron Valdez, age 33, beloved son, brother, grandson, friend, cousin, and nephew, concluded his mortal journey and passed peacefully into the next life on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024.  Brett was born on September 23, 1990 in Fallbrook California to Candace Ann Gleed and was a light of love and hope to Candace and all who knew him every day of his 33 years.  Brett is survived by his mother Candace, sister Vanessa (Rodney) Wozab, brother Dylan Gleed, Grandmother Dianna Gleed and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his older brother Adam Colby Valdez and his great grandparents.  Brett was born with cerebralpalsy but in spite of the physical challenges brought by that condition, he enjoyed life to the fullest.  He fought through many life-threatening battles, outliving his life-expectancy by over 20 years.  He was just as strong and fierce in his love for family and friends.  Brett had a kindness and a wisdom about him that was easily recognized by all who knew him.  He loved activities of every kind, especially swimming as a young child and getting bounced on the trampoline by his siblings.  Brett was an excellent judge of character and could instantly spot good souls. You could always tell by his facial expressions and looking into his very expressive eyes how he felt.  He never had to speak a word to convey his feelings and perceptions.  Brett loved watching movies and had a very infectious laugh.  He was also very good at rolling his eyes when his mom would embarrass him with singing, teasing or kissing him in front of his friends.  It is extremely hard to imagine life without Brett in it.  Being with Brett was like being in a sanctuary of peace and love.  He was his mother’s strength and her joy.  Brett spent many years of his life at the South Davis Community hospital where he made many friends and enjoyed excellent care.  Brett’s family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the caregivers at South Davis, as well as Brett’s many friends, who took such good care of him and enriched his life with such meaningful relationships.  The family would also like to thank all of the caregivers at the University of Utah Medical Center Medical ICU and Palliative care center for making Brett’s final weeks comfortable and for allowing his family to be at his side throughout his final battle.  Brett’s family would also like to thank the kind souls who provided blessings of comfort to both Brett and his mother.  Those blessings provided a sacred peace to both Brett and Candace during his final days.  There is no question that Brett was a perfect soul and completed his mortal test with flying colors.  Brett’s passing on Easter morning, at age 33, turns our hearts to the significance of Easter and the Atonement and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  We know without doubt that Brett’s brother Adam came for him and is with him now.  We also know that they are wrapped in the arms of their Savior Jesus Christ in paradise.  Because of the blessings of Easter, we do not say Goodbye to Brett—only see you soon.  We love you and will miss you more than you can imagine. 

Funeral services for Brett will be held Monday, April 8 at 11:00 a.m. at the City View Mortuary, 1001 East 11th Avenue, SLC, Utah.  Visitation and viewing will be held one hour prior to the services.  Interment will follow at the Tooele City Cemetery where Brett will be laid to rest next to his brother Adam.
