1950 – 2023
On Friday, February 17, 2023, our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and friend Bernadine “Lady B” Dutchie passed away. Bernadine was born on September 5, 1950 to Daniel Benson and Agnes Eagle Steele. Bernadine was a proud member of the Confederate Tribe of the Goshute Reservation. Bernadine grew up on the Goshute reservation until the Hutchinson Family of Wendover took her in.
Bernadine graduated with Honors from Wendover High School in 1969. Throughout her high school years she excelled at academics and is pictured all throughout Wendover High School’s year books from 1967-1969. Bernadine was an active member of many clubs and the student body office. Bernadine moved on to college at Weber State University.
Everyone who knew Bernadine loved her feisty personality and her willingness to say whats on her mind. Bernadine held back nothing and quickly became the favorite of many because of these traits.
Bernadine made the best fry bread you’ve ever had. She also made great mickey mouse pancakes.
Bernadine was multifaceted and ventured down various career paths throughout her life; anything from Emergency Medical Services to Bus Driving; Bernadine had the skills! Bernadine is proceeded in death by both of her parents, her brothers Linford and Willis, her sisters Adriana and Lillian. Bernadine is also proceeded in death by her husband Sterling Whiskers Dutchie and her beautiful grandson Chazz Linford Benson.
Surviving family include Bernadine’s sons Malik (Mary) Eagle Benson and Benjamin Dutchie; her grandchildren Faith (Joe) Ortiz, Ceasar (Alisha) Benson, Sergio (Rebecca) Benson and Malena Benson; her great grandchildren Sophia Ortiz, Jesiah Benson, Anthony Benson, Isaiah Benson and Emilyana Benson.
A Viewing Service will be held at the Dalton-Hoopes Funeral Home at 50 West Main Street, Grantsville, Utah from 11:00am until 12:00pm on Saturday February 25, 2023. Following the Viewing Service, will be a potluck luncheon at the CTGR Community Center in Ibapah, Utah. All friends and family are welcome to join us in celebrating Bernadine’s life; food donations are welcome for the potluck luncheon.
The family would like to thank the University of Utah Hospital for all the assistance they provided while Bernadine was in their care.
