Bonnie Rae Dishong

Bonnie Rae Dishong, our beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, and friend passed away at the age of 68 from the COVID-19 virus on July 9th, 2021.  She was surrounded by her family as she went home to the loving arms of her Heavenly Father.

Bonnie was the oldest of nine born to her parents Bonnie and Glen.  She graduated from Kailua High School in Hawaii then went to Brigham Young University – Hawaii.  She served an LDS mission in New England.  When younger, Bonnie loved to surf, ski, and be in nature.

She married Michael Louis Dishong on June 16, 1984, and had 3 children.  She was sealed to him in the Jordan River Temple in 2005.

She was an avid quilter with a gift to be on point. She always had more quilting projects than she could finish in one human lifetime.  She served a one-year Service Mission at the Latter Day Saint Humanitarian Center in Salt Lake City where she quilted blankets that were sent to various countries in need of aid.

Bonnie is survived by her husband Michael; children Jessica (Andrew), Jason (Audrey), and Emily (Taylor); 2 granddaughters who sweetly called her Grandma Woof-Woof (because she was the grandmother with a dog); 3 step-grandchildren who she loved dearly.  She is also survived by her siblings Jeneanne, Ruth, Marilynn, George, Annette, Bruce and Marie.

She is preceded in death by her father, Glen, her brother, Steven, and her mother, Bonnie.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 17th at 11 AM at the Olympic Park 1st Ward, 4575 West 5415 South, Kearns, Utah 84118. Viewings will be held Friday, July 16th from 7:00 – 9:00 PM and Saturday 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM. Both Viewings will be at the Ward. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery, 200 N St E, Salt Lake City, UT 84103. Masks are requested by the family to be worn if in attendance.

I would have liked to have been at the funeral to express my condolences in person-but that just wasn’t practical for me. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. I hope that you are able to find some peace and consolation.

I first met Bonnie when she came to serve as a missionary at the sewing area of the Humanitarian Center in SLC. I was quite concerned because of the health concerns we were briefed on, one particularly concerning was that she could faint upon hearing sudden loud noises… of which there were on occasion because of the way things were moved around the area. However, we had very few times that we had to worry about that, and there was a quick remedy! Her contributions were beautifully done and she was a good addition to the group of excellent seamstresses that served there. Upon completion of our service, we continued to be email pals and shared many things that were of interest. I know that Bonnie must have mixed feeling now, being free of her health issues, but also not being with her family must be a sadness of sorts. However, I know we will all be able to be together again, and hopefully we will all “return with honor.”
