Matthew Grant Barton (Sugar), age 45, left us to be with family and friends on the other side of the veil, on Tuesday June 8th, 2021. He was born February 8th, 1976 to Butch and Carol Barton of Grantsville. Matthew attended Grantsville High School and graduated from Greenfield High School (Missouri) in 1994.

Matt followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, spending his career serving the community as a firefighter and EMT. He volunteered with the Stockton Fire Department and served professionally with Tooele Army Depot and Dugway Proving Grounds Fire Departments, respectively.

Matthew married CarolAnn Christensen (later divorced) on May 3rd, 1996. They were sealed the following year in the Bountiful Utah Temple and blessed with 5 amazing children. He then married Tricia Bradshaw Carson (later divorced) and became a dad to 3 wonderful girls.

Matt was preceded in death by children Holden Barton and Ceysha Carson. He is survived by his parents, siblings, and children: Christley, Maren, Garrett, and Lenora Barton, and Teasha and Alee Carson.

Matthew was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and overcame the many obstacles he faced in life through his testimony of and faith in Jesus Christ. Matt loved spending time outdoors camping, hunting, and fishing with his family. He loved animals and especially his beloved dog, Molly.

Services will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday June 15th, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meetinghouse, 81 Church Street in Grantsville. A visitation will be held prior to the services from 9:30am-10:30am.

I taught two of Matt’s kids at Dugway Elementary. Matt was a loving father. He was also well liked and respected as a firefighter in the community. He experienced tragic loss. I know God will wrap his loving arms around Matt and I also know God will wrap his loving arms around Matt’s surviving family and friends. God’s has big arms Sorry for your loss.
