KLynn Johnson

dhfh

KLynn Johnson, age 74, passed away peacefully on April 30th, 2025, at her home in Sandy, Utah due to complications from stage 4 uterine cancer. She was born on August 28th, 1950, in Cedar City, Utah to her parents, Helen Heaton and Milton Hall. KLynn married Virgil Johnson in the Manti Temple on June 8th, 1974. They went on to have 5 children: Philip, Wendy, Wess, Robyn and Lance.

KLynn grew up in Hurricane Utah as one of five siblings. She attended Hurricane High School and graduated in 1968. During High school she was actively involved in Spanish Club as well as being a member of one of the first girls High School Basketball teams in the area. In 1968 she enrolled in the College of Southern Utah where she pursued a degree in education. While at CSU, she met her future husband, Virgil Johnson. In 1972, KLynn graduated from then renamed Southern Utah State College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Years later, she went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Education from Southern Utah University in 2009.

In 1972, KLynn took her first job as a teacher in Page, Arizona and never looked back. Teaching was her true calling, and she made a long and storied career out of it. KLynn’s career focus was elementary education. She went on to have long stints at Terra Linda Elementary as well as Draper Elementary, where she had a significant impact on hundreds of children’s lives. She took special pride in teaching Shakespeare to her 6th grade students and directing them in a student production of Macbeth. In 2004 she was recognized as Who’s Who of America as a Top Educator. She officially retired from teaching in 2015 although she never really gave it up.

KLynn was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings including Gospel Doctrine teacher, Young Women’s leader, Primary Presidency and Relief Society Presidency. Perhaps one of her greatest joys was being able to combine her faith with her passion of teaching. In 2020 KLynn began her involvement with the Pathway’s Program where she was able to help international students develop organizational skills to help them in their own educational
pursuits. Throughout her 5 years with the program, several students chose to keep in touch with her, an obvious sign of the significant role she played in their lives.

KLynn’s greatest joy was her family. In fact, it was often joked that her “hobby” was her kids and her grandchildren. She always put their needs and interests above her own and she was their greatest supporter in everything they did. Her cats came in a close second.

She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Virgil; Her children, Philip Johnson, Wendy Davenport (Adam Mumma), Robyn Davidson (Justin) and Lance Johnson (Raegan); her grandchildren: Holden, Taylor, Wes, Ellie, Logan, Cooper and Remington. Her siblings: Mac Hall (Peggy), Susan Brown (Bob) and Sharlee Reeves (Brad). She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Shirlene Hall, wife of her late brother Darwin. She was preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Helen Hall, her brother, Darwin Hall and her son, Wess Johnson.

The family is grateful for the compassionate care and support provided by Ben & the entire hospice team at Intermountain Health during KLynn’s final days.

A funeral service honoring KLynn’s life will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Sandy Central Stake Center, located at 1050 Galena Drive, Sandy, Utah, 84094. Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate the life of a beloved wife, mother, teacher, and friend.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the Pathways Program.
